Jerry's cancer Journey started in 2015, and he has had it rough. He was having issues, but, of course, as humans we just think, “Oh, I am okay; I don’t need to have it checked out, so we waited and waited. Finally, it got so bad we ended up in the emergency room for hours, but we definitely were not ready for what we were about to hear. The doctor came in after many hours and said, “Mr. Cater, you have cancer, and tumor is huge.” We were in shock; I looked at my husband in denial of what we just heard. I got really emotional, and I asked my husband, “How in the world are we going to tell the boys?” That was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. There are so many emotions that go through your brain all at once: denial, shock, scared, upset, but you try to stay strong for the family. You feel alone, and you just don’t know what to do or what's going happen. It is an emotional roller coaster. Cancer is a very ugly, suffering disease. My husband started out with stage IV colon rectal cancer that has metastasized to the lungs and now to spots in the liver. Even though he suffers every day with pain and sickness and sometimes seizures, he will not give up. Through all of this, we have never lost our faith, and we pray more than we ever have. It has definitely brought us closer to God and has brought us to some wonderful friends along the way. Jerry and I are about to celebrate our 30

years of marriage; he is my soulmate, and I love him more than I could ever put into words. Jerry is a fighter and even though he has had a long hard road with many setbacks and complications, he is going to win this battle. Words of Wisdom to anyone facing cancer: First stay strong, never give up, keep your faith strong, pray hard, and pray always and never give up!! With God anything is possible, and miracles happen every day.

“With God anything is possible, and miracles happen every day.”

My husband is one. We would like to thank everyone who has been a part of our cancer journey and who is now part of our family: Dr. Khan and his wonderful staff; Cancer Navigators, who have gone above and beyond for us; Mrs. Jonna Duke is a true Angel; Mrs. Powers is a beautiful blessing to everyone; Mrs. Little is a beautiful soul who has also gone above and beyond for us. Also, Summit Quest-- without your help we would have had to miss several doctor appointments, but you made it possible for us to make them. Thank you all for everything and for being there for us when we needed it the most. We love you all, and we are so grateful for everyone and everything you have done for us.
